Exfoliation Treatments

Whether you have dry, normal, oily or sensitive skin, exfoliation can bring new life to your complexion. There are 2 types of exfoliation: PHYSICAL exfoliation with microdermabrasion and CHEMICAL exfoliation with peels. Microdermabrasion removes dead skin on the surface while peels dissolve the “glue” between the cells, causing the dead skin to slough away. Results include improvement in skin texture, a reduction in the appearance of large pores and brown spots, and improved absorption of serums and moisturizers. Exfoliation treatments also result in increase in cellular renewal—cell turnover decreases as we age and the build-up of dead skin accumulates, leaving dull lifeless appearance.

We offer package prices for 4-6 customized Exfoliation Treatments.

Treatment Options

  • Customized Chemical Peel ( Detox Gel for clogged pores, Esthetique for dry, dull skin)
  • Microdermabrasion (with crystals)
  • Resurfacing Peel Treatment Clay Peel(acne), Fire’n Ice(normal-dry)
  • Skin Tx (pigment, aging)

Chemical Peel FAQ

Are chemical peels safe?

We only use peels that penetrate superficially, as we’ve found that the risks and side effects associated with medium-depth peels are a deterrent to many clients. We use quality, time-tested products and find the peel that is the right fit for you.

Is a chemical peel painful?

No, just a slight heat/tingling/itchiness reaction before the peel is neutralized. Any short-lived discomfort is usually negated by gentle fanning of the face. Most clients say their face feels like they have been out in the sun.

Is there any downtime?

Depending on the type of peel, you may experience redness like you have a sunburn for a day or so.

Your skin will also feel tight with some peeling for the next 7-10 days. Some clients experience sunburn peeling for the first couple days and others can have excessive dryness for up to 14 days. Most of the time, you can continue with regular activities. The potential side effects will be reviewed at your consultation when customizing a treatment plan.

What is the after-care?

Treating your skin gently like you would after a sunburn is the best advice. Avoid hot tubs, saunas, swimming pools, tanning beds or skin care products with active ingredients like retinols, glycolic/fruit acids and hydroquinone for 5 days after the peel. It is also recommended that you avoid excessive exercising and sweating for 3 days after a peel to avoid irritating skin.

Can I put makeup over treated area?

We recommend you avoid cosmetics for the next 3 days. If you feel this is not reasonable, then we recommend using Jane Iredale Mineral press or loose powder. This is a dry SPF and has nothing in it to irritate the treated area. Sunscreen MUST be worn for at least 5 days after peel.

How many peels should I have and how often?

Many clients find that a peel done every 4-6 weeks provides optimal results. Some peels may be done in every 2-4 weeks with a series of 4 sessions. This will be discussed at the time of consultation and creation of your treatment plan.

Will a chemical peel remove deep lines or wrinkles?

The peels we offer will not remove deep lines. However, a peel will improve tone, texture, smoothness and appearance of the skin. For dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles that occur with facial movement), cosmetic BOTOX® is the best treatment. Loss of volume is most effectively treated with a hyaluronic acid filler such as Juvederm.

Microdermabrasion FAQ

How does microdermabrasion work?

It is a gentle exfoliation treatment that removes the dry-skin layers of the epidermis and, together with adjustable suction control, simultaneously stimulates the rebuild of collagen and elastin for firmer, healthier and younger-looking skin. This can be performed with the diamond-tip applicator (SilkPeel Dermalinfusion treatment) or a jet of fine mineral crystals (microdermabrasion) passing over the skin’s surface.

Who can benefit?

Men and women of any skin type or colour. Anyone with aging, congested, flaky, dry, devitalized, thickened, blemished, dull or sun-damaged skin will have it rejuvenated and refreshed. Uneven skin tones and textures will also be improved.

What areas of the body can be treated?

The most common areas of treatment are the face, neck, chest, shoulders, back, hands, knees and elbows.

How many treatments will I need?

This treatment is meant to be progressive, not aggressive. Generally, results are most noticeable after the third treatment, although the skin will appear fresher, cleaner, smoother and softer for some clients after the first session. Treatments are usually performed every 7-14 days for a series of 6 sessions.

Are there any side effects?

Since there is minimal discomfort and no healing time, most people can resume normal activities immediately after a treatment. You may experience a slight tingling and the skin may feel tighter, as if exposed to the wind or sun. Your skin may also appear slightly flushed, although this generally fades within 24 hours.

You no longer have to live with irritating breakouts. We offer a range of treatments that can help improve active acne and minimize the risk of future breakouts. Recommended treatment plans will be determined at your consultation. Special package prices for 4 or more treatments are also available.

Vitamin C Facial FAQ

What is a vitamin C facial and how do I know if it is right for me?

The vitamin C facial is designed for those who experience environmental stress to their skin and/or have fragile or ultra sensitive skin. This is an ideal treatment for people who work outdoors, smoke or spend time next to a window where they are exposed to UVA rays. It’s also great for individuals who tend to have very reactive skin. It includes a gentle exfoliation process followed by a dermal-infusion of vitamin C.

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

It is a purified protein that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet and forehead lines. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles to reduce the muscle activity that causes those lines. Individual results may vary.

Will my face still have expression?

Your treatment is intended to enhance the way you look, not change it. You will still be able to be expressive. The treatment only relaxes the muscle beneath the lines at the point of injection, so the other elements of your facial expressions will still remain active. It also has no effect on the sensory nerves, so you will have normal feeling in the treated areas.

Are BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments safe?

BOTOX® has been licensed in Canada since 1990 as a safe and effective treatment for a variety of medical conditions. Botox® Cosmetic has been approved for use since 2001.

What is the treatment like?

A small amount of the protein is injected very precisely into the muscle being treated. A very fine needle is used so the pain associated with the injection is minimal.

How long does the treatment take?

The procedure is quick, simple and there’s no downtime. Following a consultation and treatment plan development, the procedure itself only takes about 10-15 minutes.

When will I see results?

You may see a marked improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe lines within days. For some individuals, it may take up to 2 weeks to see the full effect.

What are the side effects?

The side effects can be pain, tenderness and/or bruising at the site of injection.

What is Juvéderm®?

It is a facial filler made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in your skin. It combines with water in your skin to instantly restore lost volume, smooth out lines and wrinkles and enhance lips. The smooth gel provides instant results that are long-lasting and look natural.

What will a Juvéderm® treatment accomplish?

Juvéderm® smoothens unwanted lines, restores natural contours and enhances lips to give you a smooth, natural and refreshed appearance. Most clients need only one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing or volume enhancement with results that last up to one year. Actual treatment results vary from one person to another.

How long does a treatment take?

The first step is a consultation appointment to go over the procedure and develop a treatment plan. The actual injection process is quick and easy and takes only 15-60 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Is the treatment painful?

Juvéderm® is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce discomfort. Also, because the Juvéderm solution has pain-reducing lidocaine in it, the whole injection process is actually quite comfortable.

How long before I see results?

Results are instant—you will see an immediate improvement in the treatment area, which is why most people need only one treatment to achieve optimal results. However, supplemental touch-up treatments may be required to achieve and maintain the desired results.

How long does it last?

The unique formulation is clinically proven to last up to one year with just one treatment.

Is there any downtime?

Treatment requires minimal downtime and most people can return to their normal routine immediately.

What are the possible side effects?

Juvéderm® is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects are mild to moderate in nature and generally last less than a week. They may include temporary skin reactions such as redness, tenderness and bruising, all of which may be covered with makeup.

What is the Soft lift™ approach?

As we age, our faces slowly undergo the “3 Ds” of aging: deterioration (wrinkles and texture change), descent (more skin laxity) and deflation (loss of volume). Soft Lift™ addresses the concerns of aging skin by combining the Juvéderm facial filler with Botox® Cosmetic. The result is a full rejuvenation effect that is balanced and natural-looking. We use Botox® Cosmetic to treat upper facial lines, such as crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead lines, and Juvéderm® to treat volume loss and folds in the mid- to lower-face.

Skin Tightening with Venus Freeze and Legacy ( VF & VL)

What are the benefits of a radio frequency treatment?

This treatment is like a boot camp program for your skin. As you get older, collagen production decreases and the ability for cellular renewal diminishes, leaving you with some loss of tone and volume. This treatment acts as a personal trainer for collagen production, because it uses gentle heating to trigger the body’s natural response. Studies have shown that by increasing the internal temperature by as little as 5 degrees, the skin tightens and over the next 21 to 30 days, a thin layer of collagen forms. One thin layer might not sound like much, but with 6-10 layers together, you can imagine the different it would make.

Once you gain more cushion under the skin, we’ll switch your treatment plan to maintenance. Everyone is different—for some, maintenance treatments every 3-6 months is enough. However, if you are going through menopause, you may need them more often because your body is not producing as much estrogen anymore (lower estrogen levels is a contributing factor to firmness). Over 40? Start now! It is easier to prevent skin laxity and wrinkles than try to correct them afterward. Space your treatments apart to every 3-4 weeks. Remember, it’s not just for the face—you can tighten skin around the knees, thighs, hands and even the abdomen.

What is radio frequency technology?

Radio frequency (RF) waves range from 3kHz to 300kHz (which indicates frequency per second).
RF devices were first used in the medical field because it was found that collagen was most sensitive to RF energy and had a tendency to “shrink” when contacted by heat—the lifting effect of an RF treatment is based on this interaction. The “shrunken” collagen is detected by our body as “damaged” and is replaced with new collagen. This is a very basic explanation of how an RF facelift works.

Do your radio frequency devices radiate heat? Is there any risk of getting burned?

The three radio frequency devices we use—Venus Freeze, Venus Legacy and Venus Viva—are completely safe. Unlike other forms of electromagnetic frequencies that cause a thermal effect on the skin’s surface (wherein the skin actually feels the heat application), RF energy can penetrate through the surface and be absorbed deeper without any heat sensation, making it virtually painless. There may be a warm sensation, but no discomfort and definitely no burning.

I have heard of monopolar, bipolar and tri-polar RF devices. Which one do you use?

We actually use multi-polar radio frequency. Monopolar devices are the oldest on the market and most of them usually heat up the skin to the extent that local anesthesia is required. Bipolar, tripolar and multipolar are relatively new developments designed specifically for facials. With these devices, the energy does not go through the body—it travels only between the probes and is relatively small and shallow. As a result, it is safer and penetrates only to the layer of the derma that makes collagen. The more probes there are the better, which is why we use multi-polar RF.

How soon can I expect to see results?

Typically, subtle results can be seen right away. The majority of improvement becomes visible with successive sessions. Current collagen immediately responds, which accounts for the initial results. New collagen is built over the next couple weeks. Each successive session builds a new layer of collagen, which tightens and tones the face and body.

Will radio frequency work for everyone?

As with any treatment, RF treatments may work better for one person and have less of an effect on another. In general, it will work for everybody, but the result will depend on the consistency of use, your skin’s original condition, medications, genetics and overall health.

Is it safe?

Multi-polar radio frequency is a safe procedure for all skin types and tones. However, general contra-indications for electrotherapy treatments should be taken into consideration and will be reviewed at your consultation.

How often should I come in for an RF treatment?

Usually every 3 weeks is recommended until you see your desired results. This will be different for everyone depending on the severity of the treatment area when you started.

What are the best products to support the thermal RF lifting and resurfacing treatments?

During the treatment, we use a collagen-enhanced conductive gel. For skin care products, we recommend taking advantage of our free consultations for a customized home skin care plan. As with any effective skin care regimen, a potent antioxidant and sunscreen is strongly encouraged. Solution-specific skin care is tailored to each individual.

Laser Genesis Facial FAQ

What is a Laser Genesis facial?

This procedure utilizes non-invasive laser technology to safely and effectively treat and diffuse fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture, redness and scars. You can expect to see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment without unwanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation. Treatments can be done in a comfortable manner without the use of topical anesthetics.

What areas can be treated?

Laser Genesis clients report excellent results over their entire faces and necks.

What does the procedure feel like?

It is often described as relaxing and therapeutic, like lying in the sun. During the procedure, you will experience a gentle warmth as the laser hand piece is moved back and forth half an inch above your skin. You can immediately return to normal activities afterward, utilizing sunscreen if participating in outdoor activities.

How does Laser Genesis work?

By gently heating the dermis well below your skin’s surface, Laser Genesis stimulates collagen regrowth. Additional heat is generated in dilated capillaries to reduce redness.

How many treatments will I need?

The results are often subtle. On average, you may require anywhere from 4-6 treatments to achieve optimal results. Every client’s condition and needs vary.

What are the possible side effects?

Although most clients report few, if any side effects, the most common is a slight redness to the skin that disappears within a few hours of treatment.

What kind of textural improvements can I expect with Laser Genesis skin therapy?

Over the course of 4-6 treatments, Laser Genesis can help restore the skin’s youthful glow and appearance by smoothening out uneven textures caused by aging, sun damage or scarring. You will see a healthier complexion as large pores are reduced in size and minor imperfections are diminished. The individual treatment results are subtle, but the overall effect of multiple treatments can be quite dramatic.

Hand Rejuvenation FAQ

Why do you offer this treatment for the hands?

Many times we are focused on how our face is aging and ignore other areas, like the hands. It looks odd when you see someone with a rejuvenated face but older-looking hands. Believe it or not, it’s a major concern for a lot of people. When using facial care products and treatments, remember to include application on your hands.

Pigmentation and Redness Reduction

Our solution-oriented treatments will help you combat brown spots and redness, which are two of the most common age-related skin care concerns.

We use only the latest technology to ensure that you see optimal results with minimal downtime and pain. The best part about our treatments is that they can be used on a wide range of areas, including the full face.

Intense Pulse Light and Broadband Light FAQ’s

What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Broadband Light (BBL)?

These phototherapy treatments use innovative light technology that sets new standards for skin conditions associated with aging and sun damage. On the most basic level, IPL and BBL use intense light over a range of wavelengths to induce a change under the skin’s surface.

How does it work?

The light energy delivered will gently heat the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to regenerate new collagen. In addition, the thermal energy will eliminate fine vessels that cause redness and reduce unwanted melanin that produces pigmented lesions.

What areas can be treated?

Virtually any area of the body can be treated. The most common are those most exposed to the damaging effects of sunlight, like the face, neck, chest, back of the hands and shoulders.

How many treatments will I need?

This varies from client to client and depends on the degree of sun damage acquired. Some people can expect results after a single treatment, while others may need 3-6 sessions.

What will happen during the treatment?

Your eyes will be protected with glasses. You may briefly feel a warm or “rubber band snap” sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take anywhere from a few minutes to a half-hour, depending on the size of the area being treated.

What should I expect after the treatment?

You may experience some redness and lingering heat that should resolve in a couple of hours. For some pigmented lesions, you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, pores will be less noticeable and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results typically depend on the treatment area and the number of sessions you do. Continued results will depend on diligent sun protection and a thorough at-home skin care routine.

Is there any downtime?

This is a non-invasive and gentle procedure with virtually no downtime. In most cases, you are able to return to work, apply makeup and resume most of your activities immediately.

Do I need to do anything after my treatment?

You will be given some recommendations for skin care that will include potent antioxidants, exfoliation and sunscreen. You will be sensitive to UV light and should avoid direct sun exposure for a week after the treatment. Sunscreen must be worn whenever you go outdoors.

Laser Hair Removal FAQ

What areas can be treated?

Our medical grade technology can remove black or brown hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms and back. It can also treat sensitive areas like the chest, nipples and bikini line.

What does a treatment feel like?

When the pulse of light is delivered, some clients experience a mild pinching, snapping or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia is necessary.

How many treatments will I need?

Most areas require 4-8 treatments. However, the number of treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors, including hair thickness, the area being treated and your hair’s growth cycle, genetics and medication.

How does it work?

Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression and resting. Treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Up to a week after treatment, you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. However, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not actually re-growing. Between treatments, you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?

Following the treatment, you can return to your normal activities right away, but some redness may occur. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. While the area feels red, we recommend you avoid hot showers, saunas, hot tubs and aggressive exercising. When skin feels and looks back to normal, you may resume all activities. Active sun tanning should be avoided for 7-14 days before and after your treatment. It is imperative to inform your laser technician of any previous sun exposure and use of self tanners.

What are the possible side effects?

Although patients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn. These effects typically last for several hours, if not less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. Again, it is imperative to inform your laser technician of any previous sun exposure and use of self tanners.

How does laser hair removal compare to other hair removal methods?

Shaving, waxing and depilatory creams are all temporary methods that must be repeated on a frequent basis. Laser hair removal offers permanent hair reduction for lasting results.

How does laser hair removal compare to electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a tedious and invasive process that involves inserting a probe into each individual hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. It often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. By delivering light energy to many hair follicles at a time, laser hair removal effectively treats an area in just seconds that would take over an hour with electrolysis. If you have dark hair, laser hair removal is the best solution. For white, blonde, red or grey hair, permanent hair reduction can only be achieved with electrolysis.
